About Chalet Capieu - Le Barn
If you're fed up with the crowds and the concrete jungle of the major ski resorts, don't waste any time and book the apartment Le Barn in Chalet Le Capieu.
Situated in the middle of the piste, this is a true ski-in ski-out out 4 star apartment with all the action right on your doorstep, but when the crowds go home at the end of the day, you've got the mountain to yourself!
Le Barn is one of four apartments in this authentic mountain Alpage, or farm. There is parking nearby, and in the winter your luggage will be ferried across the piste to the chalet. You're just 500m from the station of Merdassier, where you'll find restaurants, a supermarket, sports shops, a boulangerie and an autobank.
With such a privileged location, the panoramic views over Alpine meadows are breathtaking, with the Etale mountain providing a dramatic backdrop.
The property ...
This spacious two-storey apartment is the perfect place for two families to holiday together, sleeping up to 13 (11 adults) in three double bedrooms, one dormitory and four bathrooms.
The Nordic-style decor is both comfortable and practical, and the open plan living area, with a dining table, wood burner and a well-equipped kitchen, is a cosy refuge when the snow is falling. It opens on to a balcony with a dining table for al fresco meals, as well as the hot tub, where you can relax and watch all the action on the pistes.
There are two bedrooms with en suite shower rooms on the this floor, as a separate toilet. On the next floor is one large double bedrooms, with a sofa, an en suite bathroom and a balcony - a great place to check out the weather and have the first cuppa of the day. On the same floor, you'll find a dormitory for 5 people with an en suite bathroom and a balcony.
About the area ...
If you're all about the skiing, you won't get closer to the piste than this! Le Barn is right on the slopes in Merdassier, Manigod - part of the Lake Annecy ski resorts.
From here you can ski to the other resorts, such as La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, or take the regular ski bus.
Merdassier itself is a very family friendly resort, perfect for beginners as well as those ready to move on to more challenging slopes. There are also plenty of trails for cross-country skiers and snow-shoe walkers.
Non-skiers may be happy watching the action from the jacuzzi, but if not, there's a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool nearby in La Clusaz, as well as an ice skating rink and cinema, sledging, dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
In the summer, you'll appreciate the tranquil position of Le Barn as soon as you open your eyes in the morning.
Wander out on to the balcony and admire the lush green meadows that surround you, and the mountains just waiting to be explored. Walkers and mountain bikers will find plenty of trails from the door, and adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, or white-water rafting within a few miles of Merdassier.Via ferrata is a great family day out, with children as young as eight able to explore the mountains on iron walkways, secured to a harness.
In the evening, sit out on the balcony and enjoy a barbecue as you watch for shooting stars over one of the most beautiful valleys in the Alps.

The location was perfect: close to amenities yet secluded enough for privacy. Just 1 hour from Annecy and 1 hour 20 minutes from Chamonix. The property was very clean and had everything you could possibly need inside.

Set in one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys, the village of Manigod is a mountain secret that is a delight to discover.
With its own ski area linking into the famed La Clusaz ski resort, Manigod offers fabulous skiing in winter and world class cycling in the summer.
Beautiful chalets are dotted around the mountains, restaurants range from local auberges to Michelin starred, and you can buy locally made pottery and cheeses fresh from the farm.

If you want to ski until you drop, and are looking for a comfortable ski in/ski out apartment on the piste Chalet Capieu Le Barn could be the one for you. There are four apartments in Chalet Capieu, Le Barn is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom apartment for 13, (max 11 adults) 150m2 of floor space over 2 floors with a ski store and laundry below.
In winter it's possible to ski the 500m down to the commercial centre of Merdassier for fresh bread, or a trip to the supermarket. You will also find bars, restaurants and sports hire shops.
Providing your purchases fit in a back pack you can take the button lift back up to the apartment! The night skiing is also a huge plus, ski until 9pm weekends and school holidays. Or watch the fun from the comfort of the jacuzzi on the balcony!
There are many events organised by the local tourist office in and around Merdassier, winter and summer, in the summer you can hire bikes, walk, play tennis all within 10 minutes of the chalet. There's even an open air pool with lifeguard.
The button lift transfomrs to become a Devil Kart lift!
The apartment is ideal for a couple of families or a group of friends. There are other apartments in the chalet , it is sometimes possible to hear your neighbours.

When my father bought Chalet Capieu in 1970, the fields were pasture in the summer and untouched snow in the winter.
At that time there was no electricity or water and it had been left abandoned for a number of years - the property was nothing like the chalet you see today.
In 1972 the first two drag lifts were installed and the area started its transformation into a bustling sector of the La Clusaz / Le Grand Bornand ski area. Little by little, more lifts were added, and now the chalet is surrounded by 7 drag lifts and a chairlift all directly connected to the Croix Fry ski sector and the whole of the rest of the La Clusaz resort.
Chalet Capieu is perfectly placed to enjoy all of the area's facilities, it is within walking distance of a commercial centre that has a ski school, ski hire, shops, bars and restaurants and is under a 10 minute drive to the centre of La Clusaz itself.
The chalet is right on the piste - truly ski in / ski out - plus it has the most incredible panoramic views of the slopes and across to the magnificent Etale and Mont Charvin mountains. The sector is great for families, but also offers plenty of challenges for more experienced skiers, as it is part of the La Clusaz/Le Grand Bornand circuit.
With the development of the resort, in 2001, we decided to renovate the chalet. The whole building was lifted, the old cheese cellar was removed and replaced with a concrete floor and new foundations.
New walls were put in dividing the chalet into four apartments of which Le Barn is the biggest.
We're still making improvements today.
We've recently put new windows in the living room to make the most of the light and the fabulous views, but the latest addition is the Jacuzzi on the sunny south-facing terrace.
It's a great place to wind down in the evening, overlooking the slopes and the mountains beyond.
We've tried to make sure that everyone has their own space in the apartment, while the large communal areas mean you can all get together to enjoy this stunning and unique location. We very much hope you enjoy your stay at Le Barn !
